It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stephanie Lynn Northrop, age 35, on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at her home in Fremont, California. Stephanie fought a courageous, years-long battle with mental health and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her loving mother, Patricia Ann Northrop (Cook), and her cherished brother, Daniel Frederick Northrop. Stephanie is also affectionately remembered by many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her devoted and loving grandparents, Frederick John Cook and Kathryn Mary Cook.
Born and raised in the western suburbs of Chicago, Stephanie was a gifted and driven individual. She attended DePaul University College of Law, where she earned her Doctor of Law (J.D.) in Intellectual Property Law. Stephanie also spent a year studying at Beijing Foreign Studies University in Beijing. After graduation, she spent several years in Chicago as a senior associate Project Manager with Axiom Law before joining Meta and relocating to California.
Stephanie was a kind and gentle soul who had a deep love for books, traveling, politics, and alternative music. She shared her apartment with Morrison, her friendly free-ranging rabbit, who brought her much joy. Passionate about social justice, Stephanie carried many of the world's injustices on her shoulders and worked tirelessly toward making the world a better place. Her beautiful smile and her unwavering kindness touched all who encountered her.
A private Catholic funeral service will be held in Chicago. In lieu of flowers, gifts, or donations, Stephanie's family kindly asks that you perform a random act of kindness for a stranger in her memory.
Stephanie will be remembered for her warmth, her intelligence, and her desire to make a positive difference in the world. She will be missed beyond words.
